Following on the success of the Brazos platform, AMD launched yesterday a special embedded version of its AMD Fusion chips, and manufacturers were quick to announce their solutions build on top of this new platform, CompuLab being the first to do so with the fit-PC3.

Touted by the company as the world's smallest computer, the fit-PC3 will be available sometime in May or June of this year and comes in two configurations, users having the option of choosing between the AMD G-T56N and the AMD G-T40N APUs.

Both of these are dual-core Bobcat chips, but differ when it comes to their operating frequencies, on-die graphics and TDP.

The AMD G-T56N is the more powerful of the two, as its clocked at 1.6GHz, and features a 500MHz Radeon HD 6310 graphics core that is capable of handling 1080p Blu-ray content.

On the other side, the AMD G-T40N is clocked at a much lower 1GHz, and is paired with a 280MHz Radeon HD 6250 on-die GPU.

Compared with its older brother, the G-T40N loses the ability of handling Blu-ray content and offers “only” H.264, VC-1 and MPEG2 hardware decoding capabilities.

However, its TDP is rated at a much lower 9W, half that of the AMD G-T56N.

Moving back to CompuLab's systems, both of them are entirely passively cooled, and pack a pair of SO-DIMM slots, two mini card PCI Express slots, a custom extension board and an internal 2.5-inch drive, inside the confined 6.3x6.3x0.98 inches (160x160x25mm) chassis.

Connectivity wise, the computers feature just about anything that you may ever want from a PC, including four front and four rear USB 2.0 ports, two eSATA ports, an HDMI port, a DisplayPort connector, a Gigabit Ethernet port and three audio jacks where one doubles up as optical S/PDIF out.

In addition, the back of the fit-PC3 also houses two Wi-Fi antennas that connect to the enclosed 802.11n internal wireless card.

Unfortunately, no details regarding the price of the two systems have been released so far. (via The Gadget Spot)
