Emblaze Mobile drops its plans for Linux-based devices

ELSE Mobile, formerly known as Emblaze Mobile, has just announced that it cannot sustain financially its ambitious First ELSE project started back in 2007. This is a tough blow to those that were expecting more competition on the mobile operating platforms market and had high expectations from ELSE Mobile's project.

The company had partnered with ACCESS and Sharp Corporation for this unique innovative project, but is now forced to close it as management wasn't able to identify a possible deal on terms acceptable to Emblaze to proceed to the production of the device.

The first ELSE device was unveiled in November 2009 and it mainly showcased and demonstrated the capabilities and advantages of ELSE Intuition, which was a new Linux-based mobile platform. Even though there was a lot of hype created with many potential partners showing great interest in the device, nothing certain has been concluded.

As a result, the company announced the following: "Due to critical delays in deliveries and the current status of the project, the board has now decided to cease any further investment towards manufacturing of the First ELSE mobile device and to concentrate efforts only on licensing the ELSE Intuition platform and technology in order to realize its potential upside."

ELSE Mobile's management stated that the decision would positively affect its profitability and reduce its operational and development costs. The announcement makes future development of the First ELSE device and its Linux-based platform almost impossible, unless a more powerful partner shows some interest and decides to buy the full project. Until then, the company said that it would exclusively "engage in the development, production and marketing of information technology solution and services" and that it would "continue to focus on profitability as well as accretive acquisitions."

The clip below presents the device, as well as the ELSE Intuition platform, before the announcement had been made.
