Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless is reportedly sending out the first pieces of that Android 2.2 software update many users on its airwaves are looking forward to receive. Moreover, it seems that some lucky DROID X owners already received the solution, something that might suggest that Big Red might not be too far from deploying the solution.

Of course, nothing has been officially confirmed for the time being, and chances are that the rumors won't pan out in the end. Even so, we should note that some happy users of a DROID X by Motorola device on Verizon's airwaves started to signal that their handsets are silently receiving the Android 2.2 Froyo update.

A recent post on My Droid World is meant to prove exactly that, while stating that the BLUR solution is still included in the update, that the overall behavior of the OS is similar with the current one, and that the “new Froyo homescreen” is missing in action. No specific details on other changes that might have been brought to software on DROID X emerged for the time being.

The screenshot attached to this article shows the Dropcap2 icon located on top, which suggests that we're looking at an Android 2.2 DROID X that already got rooted. And with an application that can offer one-click root access to the device, this does not come as a surprise. All in all, this should mean only good news for those DROID X owners out there waiting for the update to arrive.

Verizon Wireless was recently rumored to plan starting the roll-out of the Froyo update come August 6, and the emergence of Android 2.2 for DROID X might be seen as proof of that plan being real. The wireless carrier is expected to start deploying the solution on all of its high-end DROID devices at the same time, including the original DROID by Motorola, as well as the DROID Incredible and the DROID X.
