The new Class 1 Bluetooth single-chip solution announced by CSR is going to be a part of their fifth generation silicon and, by having a built-in FM radio receiver in its design, it will also be the first chip from the BlueMedia roadmap going to be released in the future.

The mentioned Bluetooth chipset is going to be branded, as the BlueCore5-FM and has been designed with the mobile handsets in mind. Also, even if it is a single-chip solution, the chip is offering twice the functionality, at the same time reducing the used circuit board space, the analogue component count and the total BOM.

The BlueCore5-FM will also be capable to have independent Bluetooth and FM radios or even both at the same time, as an example being the streaming of FM radio through the Bluetooth connection from the device to the stereo headphones.

The chip will come in 6x6mm VFBGA and 4x4mm WLCSP packs and will offer data transfers going up to 3Mb/s, an output of over 10 dBM, thus being the Bluetooth chipset with the highest performance on today's market and having only 39.2 mm2 PCB footprint.

This way, your BlueCore5-FM enabled device will be able to cover a 100m range necessary to qualify in the Bluetooth Class 1 category radio.
