The KDE Project announced last evening, June 5th, the first Beta release for the upcoming KDE Software Compilation 4.9 environment.

KDE Software Compilation 4.9 will contain features such as Qt Quick in Plasma Workspaces, improved searching, sorting, display and inline rename on Dolphin, better integration of Activities for files, as well as lots of performance improvements and bugfixes to improve the overall user experience.

"As with any large number of changes, we need to give 4.9 a good testing in order to maintain and improve the quality and our user's user experience when they get the update."

"Therefore, in tandem with this first 4.9 beta, we also announce a testing initiative lead by KDE's Testing Team," the announcement read.
