The Debian Live team proudly announced last night the immediate availability of the first beta version of Debian Lenny's Live CD editions. Debian Live 5.0 Beta 1 comes in three different flavors, for GNOME, KDE and XFCE users.

"Although we missed releasing images for Etch along with the installer images, we are now prepared to release live images within the regular Lenny release process. This is the first official release of Debian Live and the whole team has been working hard during the past 2.5 years to make Debian's own live systems become a reality." - said the Debian Live team in the official release announcement.

Highlights:

- Debian Lenny based

- Three different flavors (KDE, GNOME and XFCE)

- Different image types (for CDs, DVDs, USB sticks and net boot)

- Live Magic (live-helper scripts GUI)

- Live Installer

There are also many known issues in this first beta, therefore it is not recommended you install it on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only. Before installing it, please take a look at the full list of known issues here.

The development cycle of Debian Live 5.0 will continue with the second beta release, which will be available in about two weeks from now, possibly a third beta, a release candidate and the final version (no official release date has been set).
