The game allowed players to create their own stories

Patrice Desilets, the developer who is credited with the idea for Assassin’s Creed, says that the first video game in the long-running series is the best because of its pure nature, even if the franchise found its footing when the sequel was launched.

The developer tells Edge that, “I like the first Assassin’s Creed because it’s the purest one. There’s a bunch of stories that you can have, but it’s all in your head. You have to create your own adventures.”

He adds, “Whereas in Assassin’s Creed 2, we created the adventures for you and you’re following them. For me, the first one is an amazing toy. The second one is the real game with rules and missions and it’s really precise.”

Patrice Desilets believes that the first Assassin’s Creed was an almost poetic experience, which lessened its value as a video game but made it more interesting to the player base.

The developer left Ubisoft in order to work in the newly created THQ Montreal studio.

When the publisher went bankrupt, the entity was bought by Ubisoft and Patrice Desilets returned to the company that made him famous.

It’s yet unclear whether he will return to work on Assassin’s Creed or whether he has another sort of project in the pipeline.

At the moment, Ubisoft is working on a new title in the series, called Black Flag, which will use piracy as its main theme.

The naval combat system from the third game will be expanded and gamers will also be able to explore the cities of the Caribbean.

Black Flag will also push forward the meta-narrative of the series, focusing on Connor’s grandfather.

The game is expected to arrive on the PC, the current generation of home consoles and the PlayStation 4 from Sony, with a confirmation also expected for the Xbox 720 once the console is announced.
