iHome, a division of SDI Technologies and one of the biggest makers of iPhone and iPod accessories, has announced the first wireless speaker system that is compatible with AirPlay, a report claims.

Launched in 2005 to market iPod accessories, iHome became the #1 brand in the iPod Electronics market in its first year.

Notably, its iPod Clock Radio continues to be the #1 selling iPod Speaker System in North America.

The company now aims to capitalize on Apple’s Airplay feature, by providing iDevice owners with a cool wireless speaker system this holiday season.

AirPlay lets users stream music throughout their entire house, wirelessly.

The technology will be fully integrated into speaker docks, AV receivers, and stereo systems from multiple companies that are in the iPod Electronics business.

iTunes 10 now offers AirPlay wireless music playback.

“iTunes 10 and AirPlay make it simple to play your favorite music in any room or everywhere in your house,” Apple says.

“AirPlay wireless technology will be arriving inside speakers, AV receivers, and iPod accessories — making it possible to enjoy your entire iTunes Library — every song and every playlist — in every room.”

“Say you have one set of speakers in your bedroom, one in the office, and one in the living room,” the company adds, explaining how the technology will work to the customer’s advantage.

“For the ultimate sonic panorama, you can stream your tunes to more than one room simultaneously, so you’ll never lose the beat, no matter where you are in the house.”

The feature not only streams music to external speakers, but also information about the music.

Basically, if you have something like the Denon AVR-3311CI (pictured left), AirPlay also streams song titles, artists, album names, elapsed and remaining time, and album artwork which appear on the graphical display.

Furthermore, those who also own an iPhone or iPod touch can use the device as a remote.

After downloading, installing, and customizing Apple’s free Remote application to fit their needs, users can play or pause, skip to the next track or back up and repeat the previous one, enable shuffle and repeat etc., all from their handheld device.
