David Tavares was happy to announce last week that the first Alpha release of the upcoming Pear OS 8 Linux operating system is available for download and testing.

Pear OS 8 Alpha 1 adds a new panel, new boot splash screen, updates the default theme and icons, and adds Miro as default player for multimedia files.

Moreover, the Pear Spotlight app, for search your entire system, and a new version of the Notification Center, are part of this first development release of the upcoming Pear OS 8 Linux distribution.

The upcoming Beta version of Pear OS 8 will bring in-house software, such as MyPear or Clean My Pear, as well as the latest version of the LibreOffice open source office suite.

Pear OS 8 Alpha 1 is distributed as Live DVD ISO images for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. More details can be found in the official release announcement.

Download Pear OS 8 Alpha 1 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is an alpha version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
