J.J. Abrams is notoriously guarded about his ongoing projects and, come to think of it, no one can say he didn’t do his best to keep all details under wraps about the upcoming “Star Trek Into Darkness” – remember this?

However, precisely one month from now, a couple of thousands of lucky moviegoers will be able to see the first 9 minutes from the film, a prologue, if you will, much like Chris Nolan’s much talked about prologue to “The Dark Knight Rises.”

“The first nine minutes of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness will debut on roughly 500 IMAX screens starting Dec. 14, Paramount Pictures announced Wednesday. The 3-D footage will play in front of IMAX exhibitions of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” Entertainment Weekly confirms.

The full film will arrive in theaters at a much later date so, until then, this is pretty much all fans have to look forward to: “Star Trek Into Darkness” will be out on May 17, 2013.
