“Prometheus” is definitely one of the most anticipated releases of this summer and, as such, every little bit that comes out about it is useful for fans. IGN has just attended a 10-minute special screening and Q&A in London.

To make matters even more interesting for over-analyzing fans, below is a video from the same online publication, consisting of the official trailer and shot by shot commentary.

IGN has a detailed account of the first 10 minutes of the film: they show how humans first find out about the existence of aliens by means of cave paintings depicting men praying to gigantic creatures who, in turn, point towards the sky.

The next scene is on Prometheus and includes a better look at the team that is about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime, if that's what their doomed mission can be called.

Noomi Rapace plays a role not unlike that made iconic by Sigourney Weaver, while Michael Fassbender is the android.

Charlize Theron is the impossible to deal with suit who calls all the shots, but whose purpose on the ship is not stated – but it will definitely not be what one thinks it is.

Because some of you might not want to be spoiled, if you want to read more about what happens in the first 10 minutes of the film, follow the link in the first paragraph.

IGN also points out that perhaps more enlightening than the footage was the talk the press had with director Ridley Scott and the members of the cast.

“The director and cast then talked about the making of the movie, with Fassbender discussing the ways in which he prepared to play an android. The actor revealed that he watched Blade Runner, The Servant, Lawrence of Arabia and The Man Who Fell to Earth as part of his research,” IGN says.

“But it was director Scott who was the most enlightening, explaining that the film's final few minutes will be a direct link to the 1979 original, and there will be Alien Easter eggs hidden throughout the film for the eagle-eyed fan,” the publication further says.

“He also revealed that Prometheus will feature a scene that's equivalent to John Hurt's legendary chest-burster sequence from the original, but mysteriously intimated that it will take place in private, with no witnesses,” IGN adds.

“Prometheus” isn't out in theaters until June 8, 2012, so it means that fans still have to wait a while before they get to see all of this come to life on the big screen.

In the meantime, here's the trailer once more, this time with additional commentary.
