The minor update may be rolled out in the next couple of days

Sony is about to deliver a new firmware update for a handful of its Xperia series of smartphones. Firmware version 14.3.A.0.761 has recently been spotted at PTCRB, where it received approval, so it’s just a matter of days before it goes live.

Unfortunately, there’s no telling what changes the new firmware version brings, but there’s a high chance that this is just a minor update that fixes some small bugs and adds various improvements.

This is still an Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware, so don’t get your hopes high for a KitKat 4.4.3 update anytime soon. We suspect that the update will also address some stability issues with each of the three smartphones, and will possibly slightly increase performance.

According to XperiaBlog, firmware version 14.3.A.0.761 is supposed to hit Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact if Sony decides to go for it.

Keep in mind that certification at PTCRB doesn’t necessarily mean that this update will actually be released. Sony had quite a few updates that were certified, but did not go live probably due to some bugs that were found afterwards.

Anyway, here is hoping that all three Xperia smartphones targeted by this firmware update will actually receive it sooner rather than later.
