The update adds support for RC-V100 remote controller expected to be released in June 2014

Just now, Canon has released a new firmware package targeted at its XF300 and XF305 high-definition camcorders, namely version 1.0.6.0, which includes a few changes that improve the units’ overall compatibility.

Specifically speaking, this release adds support for the producer’s GP-E2 GPS Receiver, and 3x and 6x Digital Tele-converter settings can now be used.

In addition to that, just like for the Canon EOS C300 Camera Firmware 1.1.2.1.00, this fresh update includes compatibility with the Canon RC-V100 Remote Controller that is to be released this year in June.

If you intend to apply this version, since the settings will be reset, we recommend that you save the menu and custom picture settings to an SD card. Bear in mind that the memory card that contains the newly-made backup should differ from the one used in the update process.

Therefore, get and extract the downloadable archive, copy the “VGA6.FIM” file onto a formatted SD card, insert it into the camera, power on the device, and go to Menu → Other Functions → Firmware. Now, wait for the confirmation screen to be displayed, press “Ok,” and wait for the firmware to be applied.

When completed, set the date and time settings, turn off the device, remove the memory card, and check the currently installed firmware version to ensure that the upgrade has been successful.

That being said, download Canon XF300 Camcorder Firmware 1.0.6.0 or download Canon XF305 Camcorder Firmware 1.0.6.0 depending on which device you own, follow the steps mentioned above, and update your unit’s firmware version.
