Firefox's popularity is on the rise and now we have a new study to tell us what was already known. NetApplications, a company from California which deals with Web analysis, has confirmed that in May, Firefox reached a market share of 8%, recording a 0.5-1% increase compared to April.

NetApplications monitored the traffic of 40,000 websites and believes that this increase was detrimental to Internet Explorer.

But what it's even more important is that Firefox is nearing the 10% threshold, which means that soon, Mozilla's browser will start being adopted by broad range of users and not only by open-source fans.

According to NetApplications, it's obvious that Firefox will start attracting users whose only browsing solution was Internet Explorer.

Aside from Firefox, the only browser that recorded an increase in market share is Safari, which reached in May 1.91%.

It's interesting to notice that although Firefox's market share is appraised differently by analysis companies, with values ranging from 6% to 15%, all of them point out that the open-source browser is on the rise and Internet Explorer is going down.
