The guys over at Mozilla kicked off not too long ago the Mozilla Creative Collective’s “Firefox Goes Mobile” design challenge, and recently announced that the contest got itself a winner. According to the company, the winner is “Pocketfox,” by Yaroslaff Chekunov, who is based in Krasnodar, Russia, and its emblem has already been added to the portfolio of Firefox imagery.

The maker also announced that “Pocketfox” became the official emblem of the upcoming mobile version of Firefox, and that it would be used as an avatar on social networking sites and on mozilla.com, as well as on t-shirts and more. When asked about his inspiration sources, Yaroslaff stated, “the Firefox itself, your approach to the web-site execution, and of course my wife who always brings up new ideas.” More on his work can be found here.

As for the challenge, here's what Mozilla said, “The four runners-up in the challenge were Mauro Henrique de Bulhoes Fidelix’s ‘Hot Navigation’, Emmanuel John Y. Villar’s ‘One Mask One Family One World’, Joyce Schellekens’ ‘Firefox All Around the World’ and Eric Yeoung’s ‘MobiFox’. Interestingly, these designers all hail from different countries (Brazil, the Philippines, the Netherlands and Indonesia), which speaks to the incredible diversity of our community. Many thanks to them, and to everyone else who participated, for sharing their time and talents with Mozilla.”

The mobile version of Firefox, which is also known as Fennec, is currently available for download in a beta 4 flavor for Maemo, and in an alpha 3 version for Windows Mobile. Mozilla has already announced that it plans on delivering a variant for Google's Android operating system, but that the final versions for Maemo and Windows Mobile will arrive first. It still remains to be seen when that happens.

The blog post through which the company announced the new emblem for Fennec also mentions the launch of a fresh challenge at the Creative Collective, “Five Years of Firefox.” Those willing to come up with designs for Firefox’s 5th birthday can learn more on this here. The submission period ends on December 9.
