Mozilla has made available for download a new Beta flavor of their Firefox for Android mobile browser, providing users with the possibility to take new features and enhancements for a spin before the stable release arrives on devices.

The new app release comes mainly with a series of optimizations for the Awesome Bar and Awesome Screen, so that users could navigate the web faster.

“The Awesome Bar automatically hides while not in use, to make your entire small screen available for browsing. Simply pull down the Awesome Bar from the top of the screen when you are ready to use it again,” Mozilla explains in a blog post.

“The Awesome Bar in Firefox for Android Beta also includes domain autocomplete, which will complete your URL destination as you type. Firefox for Android Beta is currently the only browser that supports this autocomplete function.”

Additionally, the mobile application comes with a Switch to Tab option that enables users to easily find and switch to any open tab straight from the Awesome Screen, thus eliminating duplicate tabs.

At the same time, the mobile browser enables users to change the default search provider straight from the add-ons manager.

To do so, simply head over to the Add-ons manager, then long-tap on an installed search engine. In the dialog that pops up on the screen, users will be able to disable the search engine, or select it as the default one.

There is also an updated RSS feed reader included in the new Firefox for Android Beta release, offering the possibility to subscribe whenever accessing a page with a discoverable RSS feed. Simply long-tap on the Awesome Bar, and the “Subscribe to Page” option will emerge.

Other changes in the new release include support for Turkish and Hungarian locales, preliminary implementation of Firefox Health Report for Android, Serif/Sans Serif font toggle to Reader Mode, and the option to add pages to reading list on devices incapable of accessing Reader Mode.
