Handsets need to be certified to access the Firefox Marketplace

Mozilla is pushing hard for its Firefox OS to arrive on devices this year, and it has already showcased some smartphones at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week.

At the same time, the company provided info on the hardware requirements for smartphones running under the platform, confirming that they need at least 800MHz processors.

In addition to this processor frequency, smartphones running under Mozilla’s mobile platform also need at least 256MB of RAM, and a QVGA display, The Verge notes.

Furthermore, it seems that the company requires for all devices to be certified in order to be able to access the Firefox Marketplace for downloading and installing applications.

The ZTE Open and Alcatel One Touch Fire that have been on display at the MWC 2013 show did comply with these requirements, it seems.
