ZTE and eBay have teamed up once again to offer the ZTE Open powered by Mozilla's Firefox in India. The smartphone can now be purchased via eBay for only Rs 6,990 outright, which is about $115 or €80.

This is not the first time the companies partner to offer the ZTE Open. ZTE and eBay have made the same marketing move in the UK and the United States, so customers can purchase the smartphone only through the latter's retail channels.

ZTE Open is one of the first smartphones released with Mozilla's Firefox operating system, along with LG Fireweb and a few more.

The handset comes with a small 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen display that features One Point touch and Gesture Captive.

The ZTE Open also packs a 1 GHz single-core Qualcomm MSM7225A Snapdragon processor, which is complemented by 256MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

On the back, ZTE Open sports a 2-megapixel fixed camera. The phone is powered by a 1200 mAh Li-Ion battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.

Other highlights of the entry-level Firefox OS-based handset include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS with A-GPS and 3G support.

The bad news is that ZTE Open does not come with dual-SIM support, which is one of the most demanded features among Indian smartphone users. This is the only downside that could hurt the smartphone's sales in India's emerging market.

“We are delighted to provide Indian consumers access to the ZTE Open, a popular smartphone which is a great option for first-time smart phone users. This was exclusively available on eBay in the U.S. and the U.K., and is now available in India,” said Alok Agarwal, director, marketing, eBay India for The Hindu.
