But with toned down momentum

Internet Explorer continues to lose ground to Firefox. April 2007 is yet another month when Microsoft's Internet Explorer has lost its territory on the browser market to Mozilla's open source solution.

With Firefox 2.0 becoming increasingly adopted, with support for Firefox 1.5 ending in mid May and with Firefox 3.0 cooking as Gran Paradiso, Alpha 4 was just made available to testers and Mozilla has managed to snatch more percentages from Microsoft. Firefox accounted for a total of 15.42% of the browser market in April, up from 15.10% in March. Still - according to data made public by Market Share via Net Applications - Firefox has lost some of its momentum. While in February - March 2007, the open source browser jumped almost an entire point from 14.18% to 15.10%, during the past month the growth was limited to just 0.32%.

Internet Explorer is however losing its grip over the browser market at a constant pace, approximately half percent from month to month. IE dropped from 78.57% in March to just 78.03% in April 2007, coming dangerously close to the 78% milestone. If the trend continues for IE, Microsoft's browser share will sink under 78%.

Back in May 2006, Internet Explorer and Firefox owned 84.16% and 10.56% of the browser market. This May the situation is a tad different with Firefox on the rise. Microsoft has not been able to put a stop at the descendant trajectory of Internet Explorer. Although the Redmond Company has been pushing the browser via Automatic Updates and although IE7 is built into Windows Vista, its market share continues to drop.
