The next major version of Firefox has already drawn quite an audience, according to Mozilla. Approximately 1 million early adopters are already testing Firefox 5 Beta which was released in the second half of May 2011. And even though the open source browser vendor is no longer offering pre-release Builds per the Beta 1, Beta 2, Beta 3, etc. model, testers are still getting new bits to play around with.

At the start of June 2011, Mozilla started serving a Beta Refresh to Firefox 5 Beta. Early adopters that were running the original Beta development milestone got the refresh automatically.

“We’re delivering a refresh to our million or so [Firefox 5] Beta users [on June 1] which includes about 25 bugfixes. On that list are several stability fixes, several security fixes, and a very important fix to make Panorama and Session Restore be friends. We’ve also temporarily disabled PGO for JS while we try to sort out some stability problems that may be attributable to PGO,” Mozilla said.

And another Firefox 5 Beta Refresh is on the way, with testers scheduled to receive the new update soon. At the start of this week, Mozilla revealed that it was planning to put together another build for Beta today, June 3rd, 2011.

Christian Legnitto, Firefox release manager at Mozilla, explained yesterday that the browser vendor is right on track to producing a new Firefox 5 Beta refresh.

“We will be building a Firefox Beta update tomorrow (2011-06-03) morning EDT. We will be taking the latest code in releases/mozilla-beta and creating updates for our beta audience to test. Both mobile and desktop will be building at this time,” Legnitto stated.

“We intend to have the update on the beta channel the following week, most likely Monday or Tuesday afternoon PDT.”

This means that early next week existing Firefox 5 testers should be ready to update to a new Beta Refresh. Make sure to keep your eyes on Softpedia and I’ll let you know when the downloads go live.

At the same time, the final version of Firefox 5 is now just a few weeks away. “Firefox 5 so close I can taste it. We have less than three weeks to get this version wrapped up and out the door. (The release date is *still* June 21st.)” Mozilla said.
