With the second Beta if Firefox 4.0 now available for download to testers running Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, Mozilla is shifting its focus on the upcoming development milestone. The open source browser vendor is planning to release Firefox 4.0 Beta 3 in the first week of August 2010. In this regard, even though Beta 2 did suffer a small delay Beta 3 of the next major iteration of Mozilla’s open source browser might be available to early adopters next week.

August 6th is targeted as the launch date for Firefox 4.0 Beta 3, which will bring to the table new features and capabilities as well as a range of fixes. Earlier this week, there were no less than 35 blockers (severe bugs) in need of fixing.

Mike Beltzner, Mozilla’s Director of Firefox did promise that testers would get new Beta releases of Firefox 4.0 once every few weeks, and considering only the Beta 1 and Beta 2 builds, Mozilla is keeping its promise. Of course, as the browser is still in development, there are no guarantees that the company will be able to keep up the release pace. Still, Beltzner appeared confident immediately after the release of Firefox 4.0 Beta 2. “Testers will receive automatic updates to the Firefox 4 Beta, so stay tuned for the next release in the coming weeks,” he stated.

“There are more features to come in future Firefox 4 Beta updates and we need your help to test them,” Beltzner said as Mozilla released Beta 2. Users can now download the second Beta milestone of Firefox 4.0, as well as very early releases of pre-Beta 3.

Firefox 4 Beta includes a new Feedback Add-on so at any time you can click the Feedback button to tell us about what you do or don’t like. The Feedback Add-on includes Mozilla Labs Test Pilot, and will ask you to take part in anonymous studies. The latest Test Pilot study explores the ways people interact with the Firefox menu bar, Firefox button (on Windows Vista and 7) and toolbar controls. You can choose to opt-out of any or all studies and manage your settings in the Feedback button (no data will be sent to Mozilla without your permission),” Beltzner added.
