Firefox 38.0.5 Beta was just released by Mozilla, and it bring a few new features that should really surprise users of this Internet browser.

After the release of the Firefox 38 just a couple of days ago, user were expecting to see the 39.x branch elevated to a Beta status, but that didn't happen. In fact, Mozilla pushed a new Beta out the door, but it was still from the 38.x branch, which doesn't usually happen. To make things even more interesting, the new Firefox brings a few new features and zero fixes, although that is likely to change.

Most of the versions made so far have followed a clear pattern. Release a stable version of Firefox and improve upon it slowly, with incremental point updates. During this time, a new Beta is proposed that usually brings all the cool stuff, like new features. For some weird reason, Mozilla decides to release Firefox 38.0.5 Beta, which in its right is almost like a brand-new release.

Firefox 38.0.5 Beta has some interesting features

The Firefox Hello function that allows users to make video calls to other WebRTC-powered browsers was already present, but now the developers have made some improvements to it. Also, the browser is now using the services of a third-party service called Pocket that lets users save content for later viewing, on Firefox or other platforms, such as Android for example.

Surprisingly, there are no security fixes whatsoever, but this is still just the first Beta in the series, and that is very likely to change soon. In the meantime, you can download the latest Firefox 38.0.5 Beta from Softpedia, but please keep in mind that it doesn't have installers. You can just run it, like a portable version of Firefox. And, please make sure that you don't use both the stable version Firefox that you have installed with this one at the same time.
