Canonical has updated the Firefox packages in the repositories for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. Users who have this application installed should receive the latest Firefox 33 update.

It usually takes Ubuntu maintainers about two days to push a new Firefox release into the repositories, and now version 33 of the Internet browser from Mozilla has landed.

"Bobby Holley, Christian Holler, David Bolter, Byron Campen, Jon Coppeard, Carsten Book, Martijn Wargers, Shih-Chiang Chien, Terrence Cole and Jeff Walden discovered multiple memory safety issues in Firefox. If a user were tricked in to opening a specially crafted website, an attacker could potentially exploit these to cause a denial of service via application crash, or execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user invoking Firefox," is noted in the security notice from Canonical.

Each new Firefox version usually comes with a number of security fixes, not features. If you want to see what the new things added to Firefox 33 are, you should check our initial report.

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS users will get the latest Firefox version by updating their system via the Software Update or through a terminal. It's also possible to download the binary Firefox 33 package if you don't want to install it in the system.
