14 DAY TRIAL // Mozilla is planning to release two stability and security updates later today. Firefox 3.5.8 and Firefox 3.0.18 are scheduled for availability on February 17th, 2010, according to Mozilla, which made the two refreshes available for testing the past week. When it released the Beta development milestones for Firefox 3.5.8 and Firefox 3.0.18, the company indicated that it was planning to offer the final versions within a week. It now appears that Mozilla managed to live up to its promise.
“Firefox 3.0.18 / Firefox 3.5.8 went to beta last week; scheduled to be released tomorrow,” the company noted during a meeting on February 16th. According to official statistics, Firefox 3.0.18 brings to the table 30 fixes while Firefox 3.5.8 introduces some 84 fixes. As a general rule, Mozilla only specifies the most important resolves and all the security patches delivered, but only after the browser is offered.
Despite the release of Firefox 3.6 almost a month ago, Mozilla will continue to produce Firefox 3.5 and Firefox 3.0 stability and reliability updates, at least, for the immediate future. The company already confirmed that it is looking to deliver Firefox 3.0.19 and Firefox 3.5.9 next. In this context, it appears that Mozilla is ready to continue supporting Firefox 3.0 and Firefox 3.5, which means that customers running the open source browser have additional time to prepare and make the jump to version 3.6.
As far as future updates for Firefox go, Mozilla will be skipping the delivery of Firefox 3.6.1. The company already confirmed that it was working on Firefox 3.6.2, but has yet to announce a specific delivery deadline. At this point in time, there are at least 6 blockers (severe bugs) that need to be dealt with ahead of general availability for v3.6.2.
