Mozilla announced that it plans to make Fiorefox 3.0, code-named Gran Paradiso, available to users in the third quarter of 2007, although it could slip into the fourth quarter. In a draft of Gran Paradiso Product Planning Doc, Mozilla outlined the open source browser's road map.

"The document sets out the feature set, product requirements and prioritization for the development and release of Firefox 3, code-named "Gran Paradiso", presently under development with an expected release in Q3 2007. The intended audience for this document is the community involved in designing, developing, testing and managing the release of the product as well as partners and third-party developers who are building software that extends Gran Paradiso," reads a fragment of the product planning doc.

Mozilla additionally disclosed the Firefox 3.0 milestones. With Grand Paradiso, Mozilla planned the release of two alpha versions and two beta versions before the browser will be released to users. "Issue one major release every year (Fx 3 in 2007, Fx 4 in 2008, etc.) since it helps drive upgrades and adoption. Target Gran Paradiso for Q3/Q4 2007," stated the Firefox's road map.

Mozilla are one step further compared with the direct competitors from Microsoft. The Redmond Company has not as yet made any details available related to Internet Explorer 8.0, although speculations reveal that an alpha version of IE has already been deployed inhouse at Microsoft.

The Redmond Company will present Internet Explorer 8.0 in a session entitled "First Look at the Future of IE," at MIX 07, at the Venitian Hotel in Las Vegas between April 30 and May 2.
