Mozilla continues work on the next major build of Firefox, so the company today unveiled beta 2 for all users out there, including those running Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.

No release notes have been provided for this new particular build, but it’s mostly supposed to fix bugs and address performance issues found in the previous beta. At the same time, it also enhances stability and reliability and paves the way for the upcoming Firefox 29 which will bring quite a lot of changes.

Firefox 29 is the revamped version of the browser that will come with the new Australis interface, which is based on a much cleaner approach and several new customization options providing users with enhanced power to tweak the browser in such a way to better address their needs.

The tab design is more curved, similar to the ones available in Google Chrome, while the application now boasts that a new search box comes with support for the majority of search engines, including Google and Bing.

As you can see, Firefox Australis comes with a new menu that provides quick access to features such as zoom, find in page, and print. The new menu comes in handy for touch-capable devices as well, Mozilla said.

“By providing a simplified main browser interface, a handy secondary menu and an easy-to-use customization interface, we are hoping that the new version of Firefox balances simplicity and power, and fulfills the needs of each and every user,” Mozilla explained.

The parent company says that the purpose of Australis is to deliver a simplified interface that makes it easier for users to access the features they need the most, without spending too much time trying to figure out which option is which.

“Features like Bookmarks and Downloads are no longer buried in a menu but are now easy to find and quick to access. Limiting the number of controls in the primary interface makes those that are there much quicker to find. Keeping the browser simple and clean also helps users better focus on content of the webpage,” Mozilla pointed out.

Firefox 29 is schedule to be launched in the week of April 29, which means that the new version of the browser should be here just after Easter. Of course, we’ll keep you up to date on this and let you know as new betas become available.
