Mozilla made Firefox 26 beta available for download a couple of days ago but at that time no official release notes accompanied the build.

On Thursday, the company made the release official and provided the list of changes implemented in the web browser.

At the head of the list is enabling “click-to-play” by default for all plug-ins except for the recent Flash versions.

This means that plug-ins need user consent in order to run, thus eliminating the cause for the most frustrating events that may occur while browsing: hangs, crashes and even security issues.

Also new in this revision is the password manager’s support for script-generated password fields. Another change is the possibility on Windows to update Firefox even by users that do not have permission to write to the installation folder of the application.

Furthermore, Firefox beta now offers MP3 decoding on the dying Windows XP.

For Linux users, the developer added support for H.264 video codec, if GStreamer comes with the necessary plug-ins.

Starting this release page loading should be faster as the browser is no longer decoding images that are not visible to the user.

One persistent bug that should receive a fix by the time Firefox 26 becomes stable refers to a freeze occurring when the Firefox is moved in the background while Flash video plays in full screen and then bringing the browser back in the foreground.
