Firefox 12 has launched for all supported platforms, but the most notable progress is on Windows, where the updating process can be almost completely silent if the user so desires. Put into simple terms, updating is no longer interrupted by Windows’ UAC protection mechanism.

Firefox and UAC will only meet when you first install the web browser. After that, if automatic updates option is enabled, getting the latest Firefox is closer to getting seamless, as the only hint that you’re running a new version of the browser is the wait to install the updates and the add-on compatibility check.

Changes in this release that affect all supported platforms refer to pasting a URL in the download manager, which automatically starts the download process.

This, along with security fixes, over 85 improvements relating to built-in developer tools and fixes, completes the list of modifications for Firefox 12, which can be viewed here in full.
