Canonical announced last night, February 13th, that it updated the Mozilla Firefox web browser to the latest version, 10.0.1, fixing an important security issue.

The security vulnerability (CVE-2012-0452) was discovered by Andrew McCreight and Olli Pettay in the XBL bindings, which allowed an attacker to cause a denial of service by crashing the application, or potentially execute code with the privileges of the user invoking the web browser.

The issue can be fixed by updating your system today using the included package manager or the Update Manager tool. For more details, please follow these instructions: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Security/Upgrades.

Firefox 10.0.1 is available right now for Ubuntu 11.10, Ubuntu 11.04, Ubuntu 10.10, and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS in the default software repositories.

Other Linux users can download the Mozilla Firefox 10.0.1 binaries right now from Softpedia. Also, don't forget to visit our always up-to-date Firefox Extensions section for the latest add-ons.
