Several
beta versions were released for Mozilla's popular browser Firefox 1.5, and also a false launch alert. But today the company officially announced that the new version of
Microsoft's Internet Explorer major competitor
will be available for free this afternoon, US Pacific Standard Time, from Mozilla's websites www.getfirefox.com and www.mozilla.com.
If you think you will see huge differences between the 1.0 version and the 1.5 version, you will be disappointed. But under the hood, Firefox has some major improvements, that will definitely redefine a web browser usefulness.
From now you won't need to download the whole browser and reinstall it, in order to apply a patch, because Firefox now has an automatic update system. Also, you will be able to drag and drop browser tabs and to shuffle them by your wish.
Moreover, the browser has architectural refinements, supporting SVG, CSS 2, CSS 2, and CSS 3, although most of the users won't notice these improvements. Mozilla also stated many security enhancements.
Many browser extensions (add-ons that incorporate new functionality) already have updates for the new release, which automatically checks for new versions of out-of-date add-ons when you start the browser.
