Mozilla has been hard at work lately with the delivery of mobile versions of its popular Firefox web browser, and users of various mobile operating systems have had the chance to try the solution on their device since last year. However, the only mobile solution available in a final version from Mozilla is Firefox for the Nokia N900, which was released a few days ago in as version 1.1.

Built on the same browser engine as Firefox 3.6 for desktop computers, Firefox 1.1 comes towards the Maemo-based Nokia N900 with a wide range of optimizations and enhancements to make it fit for use on a mobile phone. The new browser version has been pushed into the wild with a series of user interface polishes, complemented by responsiveness and performance improvements for the UI.

The release notes for Firefox 1.1 for the Nokia N900 include: - Firefox lets you browse in landscape and portrait mode - Volume rocker lets you zoom in and out - Personalized Start page helps you pick up where you left off - Add-ons auto-update and you can view the full add-on gallery - Fill out forms more easily with autocomplete improvements - Context Menu lets you Open in New Tab and Save Image by long tapping and holding a link - Save to PDF in the Site Menu lets you capture important content, like a receipt or boarding pass, to view offline or access quickly

Among the other new features and improvements the mobile browser comes with, we can count the fact that users can tap on links, widgets and other Web content with accuracy via Smart Tapping; that one can tell a website to erase private data previously stored for an account, via the Forget Password option in the Site Menu; or that the Add Search Engine option in the Site Menu enables users to add a new search engine to the Awesome Screen.

The Firefox 1.1 for the Nokia N900 is available for download from Softpedia via this link. In case there are some who do not own a Maemo-based Nokia N900, they can download and try out the browser on their desktop computers, too. The solution is available for download for Windows, Mac, and Linux too, here, here and here, respectively.
