The development teams at Quantum Mechanics and Spark Plug Games are announcing that their upcoming Firefly Online video game will feature performances from all members of the original cast of characters of the television show, apart from Gina Torres.

The company has posted small snippets taken from an interview with all the actors involved on the official YouTube channel, and gamers can see the one starring Nathan Fillion as Captain Malcolm Reynolds below.

The much-loved actor says that the short-lived series has been the best job he ever had and that it is a pleasure to return to that universe in order to create new content.

The Cortex companion app for Firefly Online has even more content linked to the original cast of characters.

The full list of those who are doing voice work for the video game includes Adam Baldwin, Ron Glass, Summer Glau, Jewel Staite, Morena Baccarin, Alan Tudyk, and Sean Maher.

New faces including Kelly Hu, Will Wheaton and Courtenay Taylor are also involved with Firefly Online, and the developers promise more details about the title in the coming weeks.

It's great to see almost the entire cast of the TV series returning, but it's unclear how much involvement their characters will have with the new story created specifically for the video game.

Firefly Online will mix role-playing and tactical choices

The coming game aims to take gamers into the universe of the franchise, allowing them to choose a role and then find ways to stay alive while dealing with a wide number of characters, both good and evil.

As captains, those who sign up will have to take care of their ships, choose who to take on as crew and find ways to make money while they also follow a core storyline.

It will be interesting to see whether the cult status of the Firefly TV show will be enough to make a video game experience built around it attractive for a wide variety of players for a prolonged period.

Firefly Online was initially set to arrive in the spring of this year, but the developers are now saying that the title should be launched before the end of 2015.
