A Foundation picks up the game engine from failing Multiverse

Fans of the Joss Whedon body of work were angry to hear that Multiverse, a company that was supposed to be working on both a Buffy and a Firefly MMO, had been closed down as it failed to develop a coherent business model but it seems that the two games might be launched at some point in the future.

MMO focused site Massively received word from Tristan Bacon, who is the head of communications for Multiverse Foundation, who said that at the moment the organization has acquired the source code and it is “starting work full-time on the actual MMO creation platform.”

Apparently the entity then aims to gauge the interest of the fan community and decide whether it is worth creating a Firefly powered MMO.

It’s not clear whether the Multiverse Foundation has the actual rights to use the Firefly intellectual property or whether the foundation will be able to get the resources that it needs in order to complete the ambitious projects of bringing the television show to virtual life.
