Walmart is offering a man getting fired after helping a woman during an assault his job back.

30-year-old Kristopher Oswald of Linden, Michigan, helped a customer who was being attacked by her ex-boyfriend.

Oswald, who stocks pet supplies at a Walmart store in Hartland Township, was terminated because Walmart policies do not allow scuffling with customers.

He was on his lunch break on Sunday when he noticed the pair arguing. The incident took place during nighttime, at approximately 2:30 a.m.

"It was a tiny little blonde girl who got out and tried to force this person off of her vehicle and she's screaming and he jumped off the car, grabbed her by the arms like this and forced her against the car," he tells CBS.

"I thought he was trying to steal her car," he says.

He was attacked by the man, who started punching him. The suspect's friends, who were in a second vehicle, joined in.

Oswald's co-workers witnessed the incident and came to his rescue. He was commended by local authorities.

"If someone is getting assaulted, there's not a lot of time to think about it. I do appreciate the man coming to her assistance.

"We need more people who want to get involved. Law enforcement is only as successful as our people want us to be. For me, he did the right thing," Livingston County Sheriff Bob Bezotte comments.

USA Today reports that police have arrested the assailant, 17-year-old Dylan Tierney of Milford, Michigan, on charges of drunk driving, malicious destruction of property and domestic violence.

Company spokeswoman Ashley Hardie reveals that the firm has reconsidered.

"We took a step back and looked at all the information.

"We realize his intentions were good, and we've reached out to him to offer him his job back and let him know that he's welcome back at the store," company spokeswoman Ashley Hardie states.
