Ryan Finnie announced on Valentain's Day (Feburary 14th) the immediate availability for download of a new version of his Finnix Linux distribution, now powered by the recently released Linux kernel 3.2.

Being a maintenance release, Finnix 104 is here to bring a large number of bugfixes, various new packages and some new minor features.

Among the fixes brought by Finnix 104 we can mention firewire booting, lintian warnings, /etc/mtab not updated, unable to use when booted from USB, and stage2 requires extracted root.

"Finnix 104 is a maintenance and rollup release, including updated upstream Debian software, Linux kernel 3.2, small functionality updates and a large number of bug fixes."

"Finnix 104 is being released on Valentine's Day, and while Finnix releases are sometimes timed to specific dates, today is otherwise a coincidence. However, rest assured that Finnix does love you." - said Ryan Finnie, the Finnix developer, in the official release announcement.

The Linux 3.2 kernel that can be found in the Finnix 104 release was produced by the Finnix developers and it uses a kernel configuration partially based on Debian pre-release kernels.

Support for Linux kernel 3.2 in Finnix was heavily tested throughout the entire Linux 3.2 RC process. There are no known issues at this time.

About Finnix

Finnix is a bootable Linux distribution for system administrators. It allows you to mount and manipulate hard disks and partitions, recover data from them, probe networks, install other operating systems, and much more.

Above all, Finnix is small; currently the entire distribution fits on a mini-CD. Finnix is not intended for the average desktop user and does not include any graphical environments, office tools or sound support, in order to keep distribution size low.

Download Finnix 104 right now from Softpedia. It is distributed as ISO images for x86 and PowerPC architectures.
