Greenpeace salutes Finland's decision to get behind efforts to save the Arctic

Some years ago, Finland was showing little to no interest in safeguarding the Arctic. By the looks of it, the country has recently had a change of heart.

Greenpeace tells us that, last week, the country's high officials announced that Finland was ready and willing to get behind efforts to establish a global sanctuary around the North Pole.

“The Finnish government has long been in the Book of Villains of the Arctic,” Greenpeace writes on its official website. “Now they have become the first Arctic country to step away from the pack,” the organization adds.

Besides speaking in favor of plans to set up said global sanctuary, Finland appears to be interested in rolling out stricter rules and regulations intended to better control the working agenda of companies that wish to drill for oil in this part of the world.

Needless to say, conservationists are eager to see other countries follow in Finland's footsteps.

“We clearly hope that more nations follow the lead shown by Finland,” Greenpeace writes on its website.
