It works on any Xbox 360 and Xbox One Controller

Most hardware mods are about increased performance or good looks, but sometimes they are developed in order to compensate for a defect.

The new item created by Caleb Kraft from Make:Magazine is one such item, only instead of a product defect it makes up for human disabilities.

There are unfortunately plenty of people with various hand handicaps. Many of them have asked for controllers to be modified so that they can use them more easily.

Kraft wanted a way to deal with most of those, so he used 3D printing technology to create a modification that will allow for one-handed use of a game pad.

Compatible with Xbox 360 and Xbox One console controllers, the solution is a modular system that mounts on the thumb stick.

There are three main parts to the add-on: a base (it press-fits onto the thumbstick itself), extension pieces (they can be stacked for custom length), and an end piece (either a normal rounded piece or a lasso).

The extension pieces can be either straight or bent, to make varying angles possible.

The components have to be glued together before use, but that's a small matter.

At present, there are no public models for this add-on, but Kraft will make one for you if you contact him through Makezine.com.
