Berbie has released version 1.8.3 of its route-planning software, TrailRunner. While still in pre-release state, TrailRunner 1.8.3 delivers the usual laundry of bug fixes found in earlier versions of the tool. Some of those include a KML import issue, and a problem with the Nike+ importer that doesn't detect Internet connections.

Aimed at runners, bikers, hikers, inline-skaters, or skiers, TrailRunner can help sports fans determine how long, or how effective their workouts are, and what routes work best for them. Berbie's route planning app can also calculate a route for the desired distance, and export directions onto their iPods. This way, users get a detailed orientation, while keeping the workout going.

In recent releases, the company introduced the ability to display collected workout data within the program, matching the recordings with routes created by users. The development team also added integration with nikeplus.com, the online community for the Nike SportBand, and the Apple Nike+ iPod Sport Kit running devices.

Back to the latest version of TrailRunner, the 1.8.3 beta release includes the following bug fixes and enhancements:

- Fixed a KML import problem.
- Fixed a problem with the nikeplus importer incorrectly not detecting an Internet connection.
- The workout history chart did not display a chart if fitness values where above a certain threshold.
- After a successful import of workouts, the spinner animation sometimes kept running.
- Fixed a problem with the average speed and average moving speed calculation.
- Files in Finder with the file extension .plist are no longer associated with TrailRunner.
- Fixed a localization issue for Japanese.

Berbie also restored the display of the average and maximum speed delivered from the workout device import (in the workout graph), instead of recalculating them. Average and maximum heart rates were given the same treatment, according to the changelog. Other (minor) bug fixes round up the list of changes.

NOTE: TrailRunner is still a beta, while all beta releases of TrailRunner (including the one available today) will run for about three months, the company says.
