Since the video of the vicious attack by NFL player Ray Rice emerged, the one where he knocks out his wife Janay Palmer with a single punch to the side of the head in an elevator, his world has come crumbling down. Despite the fact that the attack took place in February, only now is the NFL taking steps in punishing the football player.

Initially, Ray was left with just a 2-game suspension, but as the media and fans poured outrage, the Baltimore Ravens decided that they didn't like this kind of bad publicity and fired him. Now everyone is showing their anger at Ray, calling him names and giving him as an example in domestic violence.

Janay took the beating and she came back because her heart "told her so"

Oddly, his biggest supporter these days is his wife, the woman he knocked out, the same person who went ahead and married him one month after the attack. Most of you out there are going to wonder why she would do that.

An insider revealed to Hollywoodlife that Janay did it because it felt right and “her heart told her so.” “When it comes to matters of the heart, people can do odd, strange and even crazy things. I’m not saying her decision is any one of those adjectives, I’m saying she did what her heart told her to. She loved him, I can tell you that,” an insider says.

Experts reveal the real dangers of an abusive relationship

We find out that Ray has since apologized to his wife and promised her he would never do anything like that again, and she has admitted that she had her share of the blame. Since then, she's been the staunchest supporter Ray got, albeit among the only one outside his immediate family, because no one thinks that violence against women is a cool thing to do.

Experts are now claiming that people shouldn't be too quick to judge on a situation they only know bits and pieces of. We can see Janay lashing out at her husband first before getting swiftly knocked down with a punch. However, there is no excuse for hitting a woman.

Others specialists point out that in abusive relationships such as this one, there are often a lot of things apart from the actual physical abuse going on: financial abuse, emotional and verbal abuse, not to mention the fear of leaving the abusive relationship.

The attack has sparked fierce online debates on social media, trending the hashtags #WhyILeft and #WhyIStayed on Twitter.
