An employee of the Korea Credit Bureau has been arrested on suspicion of stealing the financial details of 20 million South Koreans while working as a temporary consultant for credit card firms Lotte Card, KB Kookmin Card and NH Nonghyup Card.

According to AAP, the country’s Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) has revealed that names, social security numbers, credit card numbers and expiration dates have been stolen from the companies’ internal servers.

The information was later sold to phone marketing companies. The managers of these organizations have also been arrested.

The credit card companies, whose security measures are currently being investigated, will cover any financial losses suffered by impacted individuals.

Earlier this month, the FSS met with around 90 CISOs and CPOs of financial companies and asked that they take measures to prevent personal information leaks.
