So, finally someone managed to do what should have been done months and months ago and took Wino's money away from her and her drug-hungry husband. Last week, there were reports that Amy's father had also tried to do the same, concerned that Blake Fielder-Civil was not only doing whatever he pleased with his wife's money, but was also making plans to take over as her manager. And while we all know what that would have meant - quite frankly, a disaster - it's good to learn that Amy's mother stepped in and took control. If the reports are true, then Amy only gets £ 300 a month spending money and not a penny more.
In the meantime, Amy's mother Janis confessed in an interview to First that her daughter and herself have gone on separate ways and have nothing in common anymore. "She's lost herself" Janis says. "We're not talking about my Amy. It's not someone I recognise. She has become her own stage creation".
She also speaks about Amy's drug habits and her descent into using life-threatening class A drugs and reveals she was not aware of it until Amy's hospitalization nearly a month ago. "Amy is playing Russian roulette with her health and musical gift", she sadly remarks. I knew she was smoking marijuana but not that she was doing class A drugs until she collapsed".
Amy, her mother says, is incredibly stubborn. Yes, that much we have managed to realize, with the whole "rehab - no, no, no" thing. "She won't stop until she sees the point of stopping... when I saw her afterwards [after she was released form hospital], I did not tell her to clean up, there was no point".
The irony of it all is that Janis is a pharmacist and knows only too well how drugs work on the human body and has to live every day with the terrifying thought of just how harmful Amy's addiction is. "I know all about class A drugs. I understand the process where the brain shuts out everything except the drugs. Talking to her about it won't make any difference" she concludes.
And even though Amy has returned to the stage and has been looking better lately, it's not difficult to see that most of it is just appearance. It would be a great thing if, in addition to controlling her money, Amy's mother could also figure out how to push her daughter away from her drugged-out husband, who's been helping himself to her fortune while not doing any work. Now that would be a step in the right direction.
