Along with a new auth dialog, which should make it easier for users to understand what the apps they're about to install actually do, Facebook has also introduced a change that is very, very welcomed, optional permissions.
Up until now, it was all or nothing. Apps could ask for all sorts of data, users were left guessing on why the apps needed certain data or what they are going to do with it, but the only way to get the app was to accept all of the permissions.
That is no longer the case, some permissions are now deemed optional and users can still install the app even if they don't agree to them.
What's more, there will also be a section in which the developers can explain, in plain language, why they need the permissions. This alone will make a huge difference in gaining users' trust.
