A long time ago, it was reported that Google was testing a new format of adverts distributed in its own content network that might be based on gadgets and that appeared only on a limited
number of websites. At that time, it was quite obvious that Google tested the Gadget Ads which can implement almost any format of multimedia content such as videos, photos and sounds. Today, the Mountain View super giant officially releases the Gadgets Ads, describing them as a 'new way to communicate with users online'. The gadgets are based on HTML and Flash and can be placed on almost any webpage including iGoogle, the Personalize Homepage service powered by Google.
"The introduction of this new advertising format provides advertisers and agencies worldwide with an imaginative, dynamic way to interact with consumers," said Susan Wojcicki, Google's vice president of product management. "Google Gadget Ads are built on an open platform that enables distribution across the Google content network and can be shared on iGoogle and other personalized web pages."
Google has been testing this advertising technology for a long period of time and according to its officials, the beta testers were quite famous names such as Pepsi-Cola, Intel and Honda. Even they admitted that Google Gadgets Ads are quite efficient because they run them on their websites and were able to include almost any type of content inside the adverts.
"New and cutting-edge advertising opportunities are always of interest to Intel," said Stephanie Dillard, global marketing manager at Intel. "Google Gadget Ads provided a unique and efficient means to further promote our Centrino Duo campaign. Our goal was to enhance visibility and engagement with the consumer while taking in key learnings of Google's evolutionary advertising offerings. We look forward to utilizing the interactive gadget ad format with our new 'Chips' campaign that shifts focus back on the processor."
