A final trailer for the epic showdown that will be “X-Men: Days of Future Past” has been released and, for once, fans of the film franchise not exactly up to speed with the comics can get a better idea of what’s going on.

This second installment in the rebooted franchise, which will be out in theaters on May 23, brings back all the famous Mutants, both from the original trilogy (the old versions) and from the “First Class” film (the younger versions).

Doing this is possible through time travel, as the video below explains: in the present time, the Mutants and humans alike are being hunted down by the Sentinels, initially used as man’s best weapon against the Mutants. The end of the world as we know it is coming.

Professor Xavier has Wolverine go back in time to repair the rift between his younger self and Magneto, because Mutants only have a chance against the Sentinels and, implicitly, to save the world, if they act together as a team.

The new trailer promises plenty of action but also some drama slash good acting. I for one can’t wait for the reunion between the young Xavier and Magneto, but that’s mostly because I believe that, after the punch in the trailer, the two will resume their beautiful bromance in “First Class,” or something close to it at least.

“Bonded by war. United by hope. See the X-Men face their greatest challenge together in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods,” reads the description of the trailer.
