Valve is going to present the final version of its Steam controller at the GDC (Game Developers Conference) 2015 event in March, according to the CEO of Origin PC, who also states that the large company also has more surprises in store.

Back in late 2013, Valve introduced the plans it has for dominating the living room thanks to its Steam digital distribution service. The company would help PC makers create branded Steam Machines, which are mini PCs designed to operate in the living room. These devices would run a Linux-based SteamOS operating system and come with a custom Steam controller.

Unfortunately, during 2014, none of those things appeared, as the SteamOS is still in beta, the controller went through several redesigns, and Valve is still silent about the Steam Machines initiative.

The final version of the controller is coming to GDC 2015

Now, after hearing a report and a confirmation from Valve that it wants a bigger presence at GDC in March, Origin PC CEO Kevin Wasielewski confirms to GameSpot that Valve is actually going to debut the final version of the controller at the large event. What's more, he confirms that more announcements are also going to be made at that time.

"At GDC, they're going to have more information," Wasielewski explains. "And we'll be there. That's the official stuff we can say. They came out with the controller, then they got some user feedback, and they had to revamp it; they got some more user feedback and had to revamp it again. So they went through that like three or four times. And now their controller is finalized. So now they're going to production and at GDC is when they're going to announce more stuff."

The Steam Machines brand is "pretty much dead"

Wasielewski also goes on to explain that, for the most part, the Steam Machines branding is dead, as the devices will just be described as living room PCs, so that consumers won't get confused about what they're getting.

"I think that's kind of pretty much dead," he says. "It's like a living room PC--is now the new term. Living room PCs have been around forever. That's not anything new either. But it seems like there's a legitimate demand and push for living room PCs."

As such, you can expect not just the controller but also plenty of announcements from Valve concerning the former Steam Machines initiative at GDC 2015 in March.
