Many fans were outraged that the series “Boardwalk Empire” was being axed by HBO despite being a constant hit in ratings. Late last year, the premium cable channel made the decision to end a couple of its less popular shows, a move which included “Boardwalk Empire,” presumably to save money for the bigger shows.

Now, the makers of “Boardwalk Empire” have made an announcement that shows they're not ready to go down without a fight, or, at least, end on a high note. A recent interview with one of the actors on the series reveals that the last season of the mob saga is going to make a 7-year-leap into the future and land all the way in the 1930s, right in the middle of the Great Depression.

Actor Michael K. Williams, who plays Chalky White on the show, spoke with Den of Geek and told them that, “The storyline has jumped seven years [into the future], which is why I have the beard now. The Depression has set in. The days of the shiny shoes and fancy suits are long gone.”

Sadly, this is the last season that will see the return of “Boardwalk Empire,” which mainly deals with the rise, life and tribulations of gangster Enoch “Nucky” Thomson, played masterfully by Steve Buscemi. At least they're trying to make it a cool one.
