Developer and publisher Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy XV is getting a playable demo next year, titled Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae, launching alongside Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, the PSP remaster.

The news comes from Tokyo Game Show, the gaming expo taking place in Japan right now, where Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is playable, and where a brand new trailer for Final Fantasy XV has been revealed.

The trailer is the first look at the next installment in the legendary role-playing game franchise since its announcement at E3 last year.

A change in direction

The game is directed by Hajime Tabata, who previously worked on Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core and Final Fantasy Type-0, stepping into the shoes of Tetsuya Nomura, the regular guy in charge of the franchise.

"In reviewing our development structure, we have decided to assign Hajime Tabata as the new director for Final Fantasy XV. Currently, Tabata and the entire development team are working, whole-heartedly, towards completing the production of Final Fantasy XV and ensuring the delivery of the highest quality Final Fantasy title to date."

"We invite every one of our fans to view the fruits of our labor through Final Fantasy XV's demo, and promise to present a game that further surpasses expectations when the finished product is released," Square Enix's Chief Executive Officer Yosuke Matsuda said in an official statement.

And a change in content

Final Fantasy XV was initially unveiled under the name of Final Fantasy Versus 13 back in 2006, but since then the project underwent several changes until ending up in its current form.

After several years spent in development, the decision to shift efforts toward the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 was made, and the title was redubbed.

The game benefits from a more action-oriented gameplay, with a lot of elements that show the clear influence of insanely popular western video game series such as Assassin's Creed and Grand Theft Auto.

For the time being, there is no information regarding Final Fantasy XV's prospective release date.

Final Fantasy Type-0 is the reimagined PSP classic from 2011, now also coming to the west, set for release on March 20, 2015, headed to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 home consoles.

The game will come with sparkly visuals, remade in full HD, and will get four different difficulty modes in order to provide gamers with a balanced experience, but all the content from the original will be intact.
