Square Enix has confirmed that its recently launched online RPG, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, can no longer be purchased digitally, as it took the decision to stop sales until it sets up more servers for the multiplayer game.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, the MMORPG set in the iconic universe developed by Square Enix, saw its re-release earlier this week and, judging by the lengthy wait times and busy servers, it's been quite a success.

Sadly, while the popularity is good, the waiting is not and Square Enix decided that, until more servers are brought in, no one can buy copies of the game's digital edition.

"Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, we are currently experiencing extremely long wait times for users to be able to log in and play," Square Enix said on Facebook.

"As a temporary measure, we will halt sales of Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn’s digital download products so we can accommodate all of those wishing to play. We are working to expand our server capacity in the coming days."

A Realm Reborn was eagerly awaited by millions of fans and Square Enix held multiple beta stages across PC and PS3.
