Square Enix has unveiled a couple of new shots from the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Patch 2.2, titled Through the Maelstrom, that will soon introduce new content to the game's players.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game with a troubled history, offering fans of the Final Fantasy series the opportunity to come together and face the many perils awaiting them inside.

Through the Maelstrom will come with some updates to the main story and characters, continuing the story of Hildibrand, introducing Gilgamesh and the mysterious Yugiri and the primal Leviathan that players faced in the last primal battle.

Additionally, the 13th installment of the Letter from the Producer LIVE with director and producer of the Final Fantasy MMORPG, Naoki Yoshida, will be live streamed on March 21 at 2:30 AM PDT / 10:30 AM GMT.

The live stream will cover the new content in the upcoming Patch 2.2 – Through the Maelstrom, showing a preview of the new beast tribe quests, new cases for Hildibrand, the introduction of the Glamours system that allows players to alter the appearance of their gear and the "ventures" that will permit gamers to expand on their retainer's role.

The Letter from the Producer LIVE feature will also have main scenario writer Kazutoyo Maehiro make a guest appearance to speak about the Patch 2.2 story and new quests introduced and to answer any questions from the game's players.

Additional information regarding the live stream, such as YouTube, Niconico and Twitch links, can be found on the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn website.

The game is also launching on the PlayStation 4 home entertainment system from Sony on April 14, and owners of the PlayStation 3 version of the MMORPG can opt to upgrade their game clients and transfer their characters to the next-gen version for free, starting on April 11.

There have been some worries regarding the transfer process, and any players wanting to find out more can read the PS3 to PS4 transfer details. The PS4 beta has just ended with a character wipe, and another PS4 beta test is scheduled for April 4 to April 7, and all characters and progress achieved during that time will carry over in the retail version.

Patch 2.2 will be released later this month for both the PlayStation 3 and PC versions of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
