Final Fantasy fans who own an Xbox console might start getting excited as Square Enix is very close to bringing Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn to Microsoft consoles sooner than we might think.

Although previous rumors claimed the game would never be released on Xbox 360 or Xbox One, chances that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn might be brought on these consoles seem to have just gone up.

The information comes via Pocket-lint blog, which managed to chat with producer and director of the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Naoki Yoshida during E3 2014 and got some exciting news for fans of the franchise.

It looks like Yoshida is already in talks with Microsoft for the release of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on Xbox 360 and Xbox One, but a decision has yet to be made.

According to him, there's a high chance that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be at least launched on the Xbox One, if not on the Xbox 360 as well.

“We really want to do an Xbox One version, as a big Xbox player myself,” Yoshida says. “The thing is, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is all about cross-platform compatibility. Anybody from any platform can play together.

“We don't want to split our community into people who play on this platform or play on that one. So we're currently in talks with Microsoft, trying to convince them that this is what needs to happen.”

The main issue here seems to be Microsoft's Xbox Live regulations, which are a bit restrictive when it comes to MMORPGs from other platforms.

Yoshida appeared pretty optimistic about his discussions with Microsoft regarding the launch of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on Xbox consoles, which led us to believe a positive decision is more likely to be taken in the next couple of months, if nothing wrong happens.

In the same piece of news, Yoshida also confirms that a Mac version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is in development. Unfortunately, he cannot offer an estimated release date for the game, but we should expect more details on the matter to emerge in the coming months.

In addition, Square Enix is also working on a version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn that would be fully compatible with DirectX 11 and DirectX 12, but there's no ETA for this one either.
